Basket

Basketball was introduced to Saint Lucia in the mid-70s by a group of peace corps volunteers who were based mainly to the north. The game quickly spread throughout the length and breadth of the island. A few years later, courts were built all over to accommodate the growing popularity of the sport.

Subsequently, the Saint Lucia Basketball Federation (SLBF) was established in the mid-80s to regulate and administer the sport. Over time, the sport attracted athletes who traditionally played cricket, soccer, and netball. The SLBF currently oversees 12 clubs with thousands of athletes affiliated nationwide. The Federation is the sole governing body for basketball on the island.

Saint Lucia participates in Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC), Centro Basket (Central America), and FIBA Americas tournaments. To date, approximately 15 local athletes have received varying degrees of NCAA scholarships. The most recent being Noah Boyd, who is currently on the roster of the LSU Tigers.
