Castries, Saint Lucia — Basketball fever swept the island last weekend as the Saint Lucia National Basketball Squad delivered a thrilling performance in a packed Vigie Sports Complex, signaling a new era for the sport on the island.

Dubbed “The Island Showdown,” the exhibition matchup featured Saint Lucia facing off against a visiting Caribbean Select team in what many fans are already calling one of the most exciting basketball games ever played locally. From the opening tip-off, the tempo was electric, with fast breaks, crowd-shaking dunks, and lockdown defense setting the tone.

Saint Lucia’s captain, shooting guard Kareem “Jet” Auguste, led the charge with a game-high 28 points, including five three-pointers that brought the crowd to its feet. Forward Darnell Joseph dominated the paint, recording a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while point guard Mikael Pierre orchestrated the offense with precision and flair.
